Art Movement

In August of last year, Michael and Catherine Fothergill, the artistic directors of Ballet Arkansas, and I got together to collaborate. We invited several well known visual artitsts from the gallery to study for three days with the dancers. The artists were free to draw, paint, sculpt and take photographs. The artworks inspired by the dancers in the study sessions are now on exhibition for preview and purchase through April 28.

Working with professional ballet dancers to create a series of artworks has been a dream of mine for a long time. I remember studying amazing paintings of dancers by Degas and Toulouse Lautrec in my art history classes at SMU. So to collaborate with Ballet Arkansas to create visual art for Art Movement has been truly amazing. Ballet is a unique art form, combining athletic power with balance and grace to interpret a piece of music or creative theme. It’s easy to find inspiration from the dancers’ movements and gestures. There is even powerful elegance to the dancers when they are simply standing or warming up. Art Movement is an exhibition that celebrates ballet and the dancers’ influence on contemporary visual art. This exhibition gives ballet lovers and visual art lovers so much to enjoy.

So, come to the gallery to see the artwork, or shop us online. We have large paintings to go over the sofa or fireplace. But, we also have medium sized paintings and sculpture for the kitchen or den. We even have small works on paper for your aspiring ballerina’s bedroom. We’re happy to consult with you to find the perfect piece of art for you.

We understand people who need to live with art and dance. We’re that way too.
